Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead – A Documentary

Three weeks ago, I watched “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead” and loved it! Joe Cross undergoes an amazing transformation over the course of the film, where he travels across the United States, while talking to people about their diets & health. The film is done in such a beautiful way where no one is made to feel bad about their dietary choices, but meanwhile Joe goes about his business about getting healthy through juicing. I absolutely loved it! What I loved even more is that he upholds his promise to Phil that he meets along the way and comes back and helps him transform his life. Check out the trailer to the film: Enjoy the film!

Enjoy the film!

Defining Moments

One day not long ago, I sat down and watched the film “Forks Over Knives” and it changed everything for me! Due to a close friends battle with metastatic breast cancer, I had watched “Crazy Sexy Cancer”, read “Skinny Bitch” by Rory Freedman & Kim Barnouin, while “Veganist” by Kathy Freston had been waiting in my bathroom for me to read. I had known about F.O.K. for about six months and it had been sitting patiently in my Queue on Netflix. After watching the film, I thought “This is IT!” …trying hard not to blame myself for not  having watched it sooner!

I wish that I had known about this information years ago…I can’t help but wonder if perhaps my friend would still be alive today! I believe that this film could have made a difference, not only in her life but in anyones life who is fighting cancer, heart disease or diabetes.

In the past six months, three people close to me have moved to heaven! My Dad passed away in September from a heart attack. Growing up, my Dad had been a vegetarian for 12 years until he married his new wife, but from our many conversations, my Dad knew that a plant-based diet was the way to go! Now, I truly believe that he’s sitting up there in heaven saying, “Nina, I want you to write this down! It’s important that people know the truth! It’s important that YOU make this change!”

My next move was to read “Veganist” by Kathy Freston. Well, I cheated a little and borrowed the audio version from the library (even though I own the book). Let me tell you, if F.O.K. didn’t nail me….this book certainly did! I highly recommend it!

Going plant-based vegan, as a world traveler and adventurer, is like visiting a new country and falling in love! Perhaps you have had this experience? You never want to leave and you hope the vacation never ends! Trust me, after what I know now…I’m Staying! It is my hope to inspire you to make some healthier changes! …And perhaps, like me, you will also walk away saying, “WOW! I wish I had known about this and made this switch years ago!”
