One Rip’alicious Evening!

My turn to share my experience with meeting and hearing Rip Esselstyn in person, now that Cherish has shared hers in the previous post. Thursday evening, I drove into downtown Seattle to Westlake’s Whole Foods Market. The event ended up being held next door at the Pan Pacific Hotel. Friends tell me, who have visited Seattle, that this is a terrific hotel to stay in! We ended up being only about 18 people for this event. I think that Rip was a little disappointed because many who had RSVP’d for the event didn’t show up. The woman next to me and I got to chat with him before his talk. I got to tell him my story about going plant-based and thank him, because truly the film, “Forks Over Knives” played a major role in transforming my life in a total & completely positive way and for that I am forever grateful!

Rip touched on one of my favorite subject = dairy! I thought I’d highlight that, since some readers know I’m obsessed with writing about its destructive forces. Rip went over how much fat really is in milk despite what the label says. For example,  if it says “low fat” like 1% milk – is about 20% milk fat! In 2% milk it equals to 35% fat and in whole milk you have about 50-60% fat! Rip also pointed out, like I’ve said before, that milk is “liquid meat”! You don’t need it! It’s disease producing and clogs up your arteries! Rip illustrated how they can call it one percent by pouring a spoonful of olive oil into a glass of water. The oil of course goes straight to the top and it is measured by its weight. He offered us to drink it for a dollar. No one jumped up and complied! He even went as far as offering a hundred dollars…still no one yelled, “I’ll do it!” No thanks, olive oil. It is NOT a health food, folks!

Rip also spoke about how meat and dairy clogs up and creates plaque inside our arteries. This is also the cause of erectile dysfunction, so when he gets the line from a man saying, “Real men eat meat!” Rip answers, “No, little boys eat meat.” [Rips finger went down!] Then he said, “No, real men eat plants! [Pointer finger went in the air!] We all laughed! It’s not just the arteries to the heart that get clogged and amass plaque by animal-based products. The blood vessels in the penis can also become hardened and narrowed over time as a result of eating these products. In most cases, where a person has erectile dysfunction, it is usually an indicator that much more serious issues are at hand, such as heart disease. Therefore, a little blue pill is not really going to solve these major problems in the long run. However, a whole foods plant-based vegan diet will!

Back to Rip! He also shared his great success as a plant-based Triathlete  and the story of how he got the guys in his Texas fire department to go plant-based to help one of their own. It was all very inspirational! If he happens to come to your neck of the woods, I’d highly recommend that you take the time to go hear him speak or sign up for one of their “Farm to Fork” workshops!  I personally think that would be an awesome event to go to, even though I’m already on a whole foods plant-based vegan diet and don’t need any convincing I’d still love to meet Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn and his mom, Ann, in person, as well as Dr. T. Colin Campbell. So if they are all there presenting, consider yourself extremely lucky!

Here’s Rip’s note to me inside my Engine 2 book:

They have come out with some products for busy people. Rip asked if we wanted to take some of these home and try them out. Their hummus is uber delish, by the way. I did not get to take it home, but I got to taste two different kinds. I got to take a packet of these Sprouted Tortillas home. They’re going to be yummy with hummus and salad!

Rip also gave me their new salsa to try out and it is seriously the best store bought salsa I have ever tasted!

These products are as pure as they come with no added oils, salts, or GMO’s. Gotta love that! A fantastic evening and I drove back home, just like Cherish, in a buzz of Rip’alicious plant-strong energy. Here’s a picture of Rip and I. When he saw my t-shirt, since I was the only one wearing one from their company he yelled out, “Where did you get that great t-shirt?” Well, from the Engine 2 Store of course!
