My Grateful Vegan Heart!

It’s October and I must admit that I sighed a deep breath of relief at the end of September. Finally a year without a major crises in the month of September…my Dad passed away last year in September. That was traumatic enough after having dealt with a breakup the year before that. Kim, my friend who passed away in February from cancer, and I had joked that the only reason I’d met him in the first place was so that the two of us could meet and become friends…and that truly was a blessing for both of us! I’d go through all of that again just so I could meet her and now I look at where I’m at today, more than two years later and I am truly Thankful! I am also very happy and excited about life in general! Life IS good! Going plant-based vegan has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Plus all the incredibly sweet humans that I have met on this new journey, whom I am truly grateful to be able to call my friends!

The other side of all the positive & healthy benefits to this dietary change is the new awareness of what’s happening to the animals in Factory Farms. This is something that pains this grateful heart of mine deeply! Life, unfortunately, is not good for millions of animals! I am not trying to guilt trip anyone into going vegan or vegetarian, but I feel a social and moral responsibility to talk about it. I used to not be aware of these issues to the extent that I am today. I came across this  link from “One Green Planet” that they’ve called “The Most Shockingly Beautiful Video About Factory Farming”. Click below to see it on their home page. This is a sweet version with singing pigs. However, if you can’t watch it without interruptions, then please watch the version without the cute singing pigs (from the same producers) on YouTube below that! It’s Australian made & only nine minutes of your time! Trust me, it is worth your time and if I can bear to watch it, so can you! The people that they have put in the video are fantastic! Lyn White from the film says, “I couldn’t believe that I had lived forty years of my life without knowing what was happening to these animals.” She continues, “We’re not supposed to know. These industries can only exist if they are hidden from public view. Consumers were never told that cheaper means crueler and that animals have been paying a terrible price. Animals have been brought into this world only to suffer.” I agree with Lyn White. I wish I’d known much sooner! Sadly, our beautiful planet, along with its people are suffering and paying a high price too!…Just look at the people around you! We can EVOLVE and change! I know it IS possible! We’ve reached year 2012…If not now, then when?

Another human, that has shown herself  quite capable of not only evolving, but thriving is Ms. Martha Stewart. You may not be a fan of hers, but this minute and a half clip of her speaking out against Factory Farms is worth seeing in my opinion and although I don’t watch Martha’s show, I think she’s a got a decent human heart and is a kind human. The world needs more!
